Suddenlink Launches ‘Operation GigaSpeed ’

Quarter-Billion-Dollar Investment to Make 1 Gig Service Widely Available

ST. LOUIS (August 11, 2014)– Suddenlink today announced a program that will progressively boost Internet speeds
and make a 1 Gigabit per second service available to virtually all of the company’s customers.

“Earlier this year, PC Magazine singled us out as one of the top broadband service providers in the U.S.,” said Suddenlink Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jerry Kent. “This program will help us build on that distinction,
extend our broadband leadership, and continue providing the best customer experience possible.”

To support the effort, known internally as Operation GigaSpeed, Suddenlink’s board of directors last week approved an investment of almost a quarter-billion dollars, above and beyond other capital improvements. The company will use the funds to upgrade network and in-home equipment and complete its conversion to all-digital video.

Kent added: “While companies like Google and AT&T are offering or planning to offer 1 Gigabit service in a relatively few, selected neighborhoods in urban and large suburban cities, we will take it to small and mid-sized
markets and rural areas, and in those communities, it will be available to 100 percent of our customers.”

Kent said he expects nearly half of the planned 1 Gigabit launches to be completed next year and most of the
remainder the following year. In addition, while Suddenlink already offers its business customers a range of
custom services capable of multi-Gigabit speeds, the company also plans to enhance its standard commercial services
through this project. Suddenlink will communicate additional details to customers after the investments are started
in each community and again when 1 Gigabit speeds are available.

Suddenlink Launches 107-Meg Internet Service in Aurora, Monett

Suddenlink announced that it has started offering residential customers in Aurora and Monett its High-Speed Internet MAX 107.0 service, featuring a download speed up to 107 Megabits per second (Mbps) and an upload speed up to 5 Mbps. MAX 107.0 is the fastest residential Internet service in the communities.
High-Speed Internet MAX 107.0 is enabled by Suddenlink’s deployment of industry leading technology called DOCSIS 3.0. The new Internet service will add another choice to Suddenlink’s four existing services in the area – Suddenlink High-Speed Internet 3.0, 15.0, 30.0 and 50.0.

Event Features Venison Chili to Help Feed Less Fortunate on Wednesday, October 16
Mayor Bill Falkner Proclaims October 16 “Hunt.Fish.Feed.” Day & Will Attend

New Berlin, Wis. – October 10, 2013 – Sportsman Channel and Suddenlink are teaming up to host a Hunt.Fish.Feed event in St. Joseph, Mo. on Wednesday, October 16, serving a special venison chili lunch at Open Door Food Kitchen to more than 250 of those in need. Guests from neighboring shelters are also invited, including Juda House. Special guest Scott Leysath, Sportsman Channel TV host and Executive Chef, will help prepare and serve venison chili with homemade cheddar cornbread and fruit. Hunt.Fish.Feed., created by Sportsman Channel, is a unique outreach program that taps an underutilized food source—game meat and fish donated by sportsmen—to feed those struggling with hunger across America.

Mayor Bill Falkner will be in attendance during the lunch session beginning at 11 am. He also proclaimed October 16 as “Hunt.Fish.Feed.” Day.

Open Door Food Kitchen has been operating with the help of volunteers and local churches since 1984. Their mission is to build a better community by feeding all that come through their door – no questions asked. They estimate roughly 2,000 volunteer hours every month help to provide opportunities for those who need it in the St. Joseph area.

Missouri Municipal League 79th Annual Conference

Missouri Municipal League held its 79th annual conference in Branson Sunday-Wednesday, Sep. 15-18. The conference provides training sessions for city and municipal employees on a variety of timely subjects ranging from disaster preparedness to utility regulation to streamlined sales tax. Commercial exhibits of products & services pertinent to municipalities is displayed, of which MCTA was a part.

On hand in the MCTA exhibit booth were member company representatives including Cable America, Charter, Comcast, Mediacom, Suddenlink, and Time Warner Cable. During the exhibit MML attendees are encouraged to place a business card in for a drawing to win a television. This year MCTA also urged those in attendance to following the association on Twitter by giving away a Kindle Fire.

Business Of the Month: MediaCom

Mediacom’s Janet Wesley, pictured at right, and Phyllis Shea, pictured at left, have been greeting area residents and providing customer service since the early days of cable TV — well before people imagined watching TV programs on computers, tablets or smartphones. In fact, Janet and Phyllis began working at the Excelsior Springs cable office several years before Mediacom bought the system and began its operation and expansion in 1998.

To say their jobs have changed since then is a colossal understatement. Fifteen years ago, cable companies offered just a few dozen channels and reception was analog-only (remember the clunky tube TVs?). The VCR was used to record TV programs, and there was no high-speed Internet service.

Today, Mediacom’s customer center at 115 N. Industrial Park Road is larger than in 1998, and Janet and Phyllis don’t just sit behind a counter. They prefer to be in the lobby with a remote control in hand to show consumers an assortment of 200+ cable channels that provide entertainment, sports, children’s programming, 24/7 weather and much more. The cable TV experience is “night and day” different today – with dozens of the most popular channels available in high-definition reception and the ability to time shift programming to suit individual schedules. Janet and Phyllis love to demonstrate how Mediacom’s OnDemand channel and Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) give customers the flexibility to choose what and when to watch. If not now, a viewer can record programs to watch later using a DVR; or go to OnDemand’s extensive video library to see primetime TV shows and other free programs, or view newly released movies.

The most striking change, by far, is the Internet and its role in the daily lives of most consumers. Mediacom continually invests in its extensive fiber optic network to support cable broadband service with Internet speeds that are in the top tier for the nation’s most reliably-fast providers. Mediacom’s fiber-based broadband platform has delivered impressive Internet speed increases many times over the past 10 years and offers a wide menu of speed choices to meet different needs for different consumers.

On September 1, Mediacom pressed the accelerator again to bring Ultra 105 Internet to Excelsior Springs and other Northwest Missouri communities. When asked to reflect on the changes they’ve seen while working for Mediacom, Janet and Phyllis vacillate between saying, “we’re not the old cable company, we’re a technology company using the latest digital innovations.” Or, “yes you can teach an old dog a new trick or two, and that’s what we do — we show people of all ages how to use our digital products to get more value and convenience from today’s Mediacom.”

2012 Golf Tournament

A total of 188 golfers took to the links at the annual MCTA Bill Mullen Memorial Golf Tournament at Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters, on June 19. Once again Mother Nature smiled on us as both morning and afternoon flights took off.

Lunch was held at Old Hickory Golf Club, along with a silent auction and raffle, which was well attended by operators, programmers and vendors, offering all an opportunity to network and forge business relationships. Many items, including St. Louis Cardinals autographed memorabilia, tickets for Royals baseball, Kansas City Chiefs, and St. Louis Rams, wines, cigars, and sets of golf clubs, among other things.

A big thanks goes to the golf committee, who was instrumental in making the event a huge success. Hats off to all of them, especially Daniel Soane, Outdoor Channel, who chaired the committee.

C-SPAN and Mediacom to Spotlight Jefferson City

2012 “LCV Cities Tour” Will Highlight Community’s History

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. May 24th, 2012 – The Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau and local cable operator Mediacom, today announced that Jefferson City is one of six American cities chosen by C-SPAN to be featured in nationally-televised programs that will showcase the city’s history and literary life. C-SPAN, a commercial-free public affairs network founded and funded by the cable industry, will send a team of video-journalists to Jefferson City on June 4-8 to conduct interviews and film historical landmarks that will culminate in a series of programs to be broadcast three weeks later during a dedicated “Jefferson City weekend” on BookTV (CSPAN2) and American History TV (CSPAN3).

C-SPAN calls its initiative the “2012 LCV Cities Tour,” in reference to the use of “Local Content Vehicles” (LCVs) and mobile video journalists who are dispatched to capture the history and literary life of unique American cities. In conjunction with its local partner, Mediacom, C-SPAN selected Jefferson City as one of six south-central American cities with a rich heritage that may not be widely familiar to a national television audience.

“C-SPAN launched its LCV Cities tour in an effort to complement the network’s program offerings for American history buffs and non-fiction book lovers,” said Susan Swain, C-SPAN co-president. “Jefferson City is rich with history and has interesting local authors. The other component is C-SPAN’s close partnership with Mediacom. Together, we want to present various aspects of Jefferson City’s vibrant heritage to a nationwide audience.”

C-SPAN is kicking off its week-long visit to Jefferson City on Monday, June 4th with a Meet & Greet at G2 Gallery Catering Events, located in the historic Lohman Opera House on High Street, which was built in the mid 1880s. The Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau and Mediacom will host the private event. City leaders and media representatives are invited to gather for an introduction to the C-SPAN team and project. The event is scheduled for 4-5:30 pm and will feature light hors d’oeuvres and presentations from city officials, the C-SPAN team and local historians.

During the kick-off event, officials will unveil the series of local landmarks, tours and civic leader interviews that will be included during the content-gathering week. The special features on Jefferson City are scheduled to air on C-SPAN2′s BookTV on Saturday, June 30th at 11am CT and C-SPAN3′s American History TV on Sunday, July 1st at 4pm CT.

“We were thrilled to be selected for this opportunity to share Jefferson City history on a national platform,” said Convention & Visitors Bureau sports/film manager Chris Wilson. “As people across the country view the C-SPAN programming, it will undoubtedly create interest in our community, which we hope will translate into more visitors choosing Jefferson City as a travel destination.”

McCaskill Visits Charter Commons


US Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo) visited Charter Commons in Town & Country, Missouri, on Monday, May 7 as part of Charter Communications Employee Grassroots Political Forum.

This forum is designed to encourage open dialogue between political representatives and Charter employees.

Senator McCaskill spent time with approximately 50 members of Charter’s leadership team, where she discussed her vision for Missouri.

She also took a tour of the facility and was eagerly greeted by the nearly 1,000 employees who work at Charter Commons.
